The Review
6 deep filled mince pies. Shortcrust pastry cases filled with rich mincemeat and topped with sugar
‘Poor but not inedible. The pie itself offered a good look with its pastry star but this was to provide the decoy from the shallow filling and watery filling. It never really got going on the taste front, the thick pastry unsettling the balance of flavour. I like a consistant filling texture, unfortunately this pie provided none of this, the inside was more like mince soup.’ – Adam
‘Maybe my virgin taste buds are not as sensitive as the other reviewers but I did not mind this mince pie. Yes, I’ve eaten better this winter but I’ve also tasted worse. Perhaps the true mince pie winners are yet to come and I’ll understand why the marks are below average. It’s true the pie does not live up the photos that adorn the box but it’s still quite a looker, but Tesco were a little stingy with the filling. The taste is not bad with the pastry and filling well quite well balanced.’ – Mince Pie Virgin
‘Too heavy on the pastry which over powers the taste of the filling!’ – Su
‘The pie felt a bit on the light side but appeared to be full on first inspection, this was due to the amount of pastry which somehow managed to overpower what little flavour the filling had, leaving a pie which tasted of virtually nothing! These pies are very good value and so ideal for anyone having a party full of people with no taste buds.’ – Paul
