12 Deep filled Mince Pies. Pastry Cases with a mincemeat filling
‘Rowan Hill Bakery’s utilitarian packaging includes a beginner’s explanation of what a mince pie actually is – perhaps for the export Market? Inside, the pastry features a festive holly motif but is a little crumbly. Mincemeat is plentiful but pretty standard. However, it has the benefit of making the pie slightly soggy, with the result that it seems more substantial and filling than the average budget pie. This lifts the overall effect of what is, essentially, an unremarkable yuletide snack.’ – Marco
‘The flavour was quite nice but it was all too stodgy. Average!’ – Su
‘Very stodgy but the taste isn’t bad. Average to look at with uneven lid assembly reducing the marks slightly. ‘ – Paul
‘The Germans are not known for their mince pies (great gingerbread, superb stollen, brilliant bratwurst … You get the picture) so it’s no real surprise that these pies fail to capture the attention, or taste buds. No doubt as inexpensive as they look and taste, the mince was too stodgy, whilst the crust was too flaky. Packaging was okay, though, although suggesting more promise than it could deliver.’ – Chris
‘A stodgy mincer, the taste was ok but it lacked something. I feel that it is one of those pies that would benefit from being heated. It was however still a head shaker. Not recommended.’ – Adam
