Gaudins handmade minces pies are freshly baked for a truly delicious taste

‘This pie is borderline terrific, although not deep filled, it is full of tasty filling. Due to the hand-made nature of the pie the appearance and consistency can suffer but this only matters if you are looking for a ‘perfect’ pie, I personally like the fact that these look home-made. The second pie I tasted did have a slightly over-cooked base but not enough to ruin an exceptional mince pie. I think this could be the best pie of the year but we’ll have to wait and see!’ – Paul

‘In a market obsessed with ‘deep filling’ their pies it’s nice to find a traditional style pie. Even though it’s flatter than many of it’s competitors it still contains about the same amount of filling as the ‘deep filled’ pies are not filled and this means you don’t suffer from the pastry overload that has afflicted so many other pies. Gaudins Patisserie Mince Pies are handmade and it shows; they’re not the prettiest to look at by do has a certain homely charm like my freshly baked biscuits. I enjoyed the sweetness of the sugared cap contrasting with the delicious, fruity filling. On taste and texture this pies is close to perfect, although the after taste that lingers in the mouth was not as nice as good as I’ve had before although this may have been caused by the hot chocolate I drank beforehand. I think hot chocolate makes my mouth sweat or something. But back to the pie, the box is a compact double stacker with a large viewing window. The design is simpler than some of the larger brands but it’s nevertheless effect as a windows tells you a lot more than any photo. These pies get my recommendation!’ – Mince Pie Virgin

    Wow, these must great. Where can I get them? Are they really better than the M&S pies – I love those and can’t imagine a tastier pie.

    Yes Jim, it’s true, they are better than the M&S pies. Well at least we think so, but you can change all that by rating the pies too. We think they are only available in the Channel Islands – we search high and low for every pie we can find – but if you’re lucky there might be some elsewhere in the UK.

    These were delicious! Lovely pastry that crumbled and melted in the mouth with a decent amount of filling, without going over the top on alcohol. These are by far the best I’ve tasted so far.

    I agree with everything said from last year’s review but I was very disappointed when I excitedly bit into my first Gaudins pie of the year. Where has the filling gone? I know there is a recession on but please don’t restrict the mince meat. My second pack was an improvement on the first but I have to down-grade the 2009 pie to a 6/10.
